The redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 introduces updates throughout the vehicle, but its most critical improvements are located under the hood.
Chevrolet continues offering four distinct engines: a turbocharged four-cylinder, a inline-six turbo-diesel, and two new V8s. The TurboMax gains output and a 10-speed transmission, while new 5.7L and 6.6L Small Block V8s replace the outgoing 5.3L and 6.2L engines.
2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Engine Specifications
| Engine | Power | Torque | Max. Towing | Max. Payload |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.7L TurboMax | 350 hp | 455 lb-ft | 4,264 kg | 1,061 kg |
| 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel | 305 hp | 495 lb-ft | 5,443 kg | 848 kg |
| 5.7L V8 Small Block | 402 hp | 428 lb-ft | 6,214 kg | 984 kg |

*Maximum towing and payload ratings require specific cab, box, drivetrain and trailering package configurations.
2.7L TurboMax: Increased Output and 10-Speed Transmission
The 2.7L TurboMax engine produces 350 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of low-end torque.
It delivers a maximum towing rating of 4,264 kg and the highest payload capacity in the Silverado lineup at 1,061 kg. Moving to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission improves gear spacing and driving refinement.
3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel: High Torque Efficiency
The 3.0L Duramax inline-six turbo-diesel produces 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the 10-speed automatic, it can tow up to 5,443 kg.
This powertrain is ideal for drivers who cover long highway distances and require steady pulling power under load.
New 5.7L V8: The Towing Leader
Replacing the previous 5.3L V8, the new sixth-generation 5.7L V8 generates 402 horsepower (a 47-hp increase) and 428 lb-ft of torque.
It enables the Silverado's maximum trailering rating of 6,214 kg (13,700 lb) when configured in Double Cab 2WD with the Max Trailering Package. This demonstrates that chassis configuration and axle loading play a vital role alongside engine displacement.
New 6.6L V8: Maximum Naturally Aspirated Horsepower
The new 6.6L V8 produces 481 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful factory-produced naturally aspirated V8 in its segment.
With a towing rating of 4,400 kg, its primary focus is rapid acceleration and high-output performance, featured prominently on trims like the Silverado ZR2.
Sixth-Generation V8 Engineering Enhancements
The 5.7L and 6.6L V8s introduce key mechanical upgrades :
- 6 mm longer piston stroke ;
- Dual injection combining direct and port injection ;
- Higher compression ratios and larger throttle bodies ;
- Optimized intake manifolds and cooling circuits.
